Preparation for Confirmation at St. Francis de Sales is a two-year process:
The journey towards the Sacrament of Confirmation continues the following year once the young person has learned to be a true disciple of Jesus Christ. It is only after that first year of sitting at the feet of Jesus that one becomes an apostle. The word “apostle” in Greek is “apostollos” or “one sent forth” as an ambassador of the Gospel. Therefore, at the conclusion of the second year, the young people receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, are sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit, and are sent forth to bring the Good News to world. That is why being a confirmed Catholic is only the BEGINNING of the journey, not the end.

“Preparation for Confirmation should aim at leading the Christian
toward a more intimate union with Christ
and a more lively familiarity with the Holy Spirit
- his action, his gifts, and his bidding -
in order to be more capable of assuming the apostolic responsibilities of Christian life.
To this end catechesis for Confirmation should strive
to awaken a sense of belonging to the Church of Jesus Christ,
the universal Church as well as the parish community.
The latter bears special responsibility for the preparation of the confirmands.”
